Does he really want to marry someone who only thinks about her self-ie?
A New York City woman had social media cringing after missing her boyfriend’s proposal because she was too focused on getting a photo of them together. A clip of the embarrassing gaffe has racked up over 4.3 million views on TikTok along with untold numbers of facepalms from mortified gawkers.
“POV: You just wanted a fit pic and boyfriend tries to propose, but you need to check the waiter’s angles,” reads the on-screen caption to the clip, which was posted by the account @CoupleCam.
The humiliating photobomb occurred while Brooklyn-based couple Monica and Andrew, whose last names are unknown, were trying to get a waiter to take their photo while dressed to the nines at a fancy restaurant.

Little did Monica know that they were gussied up for a reason: Her beau had planned to propose with an engagement ring he’d had hidden in a box at his side. The husband hopeful saw his moment after his better half asked the waiter, who was holding the camera, to make an adjustment.
In the 7-second clip, Monica can be heard telling the server she needed “flash” for the photos, whereupon Andrew quips “is this flashy” while brandishing the rock. Unfortunately, his girlfriend didn’t notice that he’d popped the question as she was too preoccupied with the camera angle.
The clip concludes with the oblivious bride-not-to-be walking toward the camera while the aspiring groom tries in vain to get her to notice the rock.
Thankfully, it appears that Monica was mortified over spoiling the big moment as she wrote in the caption, “IM SO SORRY LMAOOOO.”
Needless to say, the botched proposal was a big hit on TikTok with one bemused viewer writing: “Noooo this is hilarious.”
“This is like the equivalent of when I try to say something in a group convo and no one hears me,” commented another. A third commiserator exclaimed, “you walked away i’m weak.”
“Nahhh this is too funny I need an update,” said one sympathizer.
Despite the embarrassing gaffe, Andrew wasn’t gonna let wife pass him by. In a follow-up video, the persistent fellow can be seen holding his gf’s hand, which now bears the aforementioned engagement ring. “You think that’s flashy enough?” the self-effacing fellow quips in a callback to his earlier line.
This isn’t the first time a couple’s big moment has gone uproariously awry. Earlier this week, a Mexican man’s elaborate proposal in a park was rudely interrupted by a giant bear that decided to stroll in front of the camera right as he was popping the question. In other words, the picture-perfect proposal devolved into a “Kodiak moment.”
