We’re calling it: Bridgerton bridal is the wedding trend of 2022

In its deliciously addictive Season 2, “Bridgerton” has cemented its obsession-worthy status. Steamy romance and gossipy intrigue are hallmarks of the show, but the other indulgence is the sumptuous Regency-era esthetic. (The sets! The costumes! The tiaras!) Together, they provide top-tier wedding style inspiration for 2022 brides.　

“The opulence of the Regency era is easily adapted to wedding day style,” says Antonia Akai-Casuccio, creative director of The Loved One, a modern-vintage jewelry and accessory brand. “The height of the Regency period occurred between 1811 and 1820, and the styles (during that period) defined a newer, modern era of art, architecture, culture and fashion. For women in particular, the prevalence of lighter fabrics, softer silhouettes, and elaborate trims and details showcased a new way of dressing.”

Akai-Casuccio, a massive “Bridgerton” fan, says she’s inspired by both the show’s sartorial choices and its diverse casting: “As a mixed-race person, I’m overjoyed to see the same rich diversity of my family celebrated in this glamorous universe. For me, it’s history as it should have been all along.”

What are some key silhouettes and details of Regency styling?

The Regency era definitely had a penchant for ornamentation. Puffed sleeves, floral prints, soft sorbet colours and floral accessories are just a few of the nods we are seeing to the era in today’s bridal style trends.

What does “Bridgerton” bridal style look like now?

I’ve seen many gowns with Empire waistlines — a signature of the Regency period — as well as exquisite details like delicate embroidered flowers and, of course, bows. There’s a real return to elegance and luxury happening in all areas of fashion, including bridal wear. After two-plus years of living and working at home in our sweats, our collective thirst for glamour is at an all-time high. And while we might not be rushing out to dance a quadrille in a grand ballroom, attending a wedding is a perfect excuse to be unapologetically luxe.

What are some key accessories you recommend?

For starters, bows and pearls — and we’ll take great lashings of both, please! Whether you wear an actual bow, or jewelry with little bow details, you can easily channel your inner “Bridgerton” heroine. I love baroque pearls; their exquisite imperfection makes them modern with an old-world vibe. A delicate headpiece or hair adornments will also take your wedding look from pretty to fabulous. Lastly, floral-themed pieces are a major part of Regencycore. Back in the day, the study of botany was extremely popular, and flowers were a common motif in fabrics, jewelry and decor. The beauty of flowers, from a floral printed fabric to dainty floral stud earrings, will instantly add romance to a wedding look.
