Traditional zari has been incorporated, woven into fabrics to make intricate patterns and designs, amalgamated with authentic Rajasthani tikdi, hand-embroidered dabka, traditional nakshi embroidery and the twisted stitch marodi along with gota work. These are the new bits to look forward to, apart from Mishra’s trademark mirror-work. For the Abhinav Mishra Bridal 2022 collection, the palette harkens back to the original colours that the heritage of bridal finery has always kept in precedent– reds and warmer tones, that take centre stage in this story.
“This evolution came when I started looking into the main bridal function by playing with darker, warmer colours and intricate designs with zari and zardozi work along with mirror-work. It was a natural decision to look at the bridal functions as we noticed a lot of brides were incorporating our existing collection in their big day,” explains Mishra, on his decision to move into the couture segment for bridal wear. The designer’s frothy and whispy confections are also the ideal fit for summer nuptials. Mishra envisions fresh and bright hues of reds, pinks and tangerine, over lightweight fabrics like chanderi silk and organza as part of his offerings targeted towards the hotter months. Completing the summer-centric outfits with smatterings of gota embroidery using silk threads and even prints, the designer pushes forward a new perspective on season-appropriate attire for the big day.
