TEMECULA, CA — Temecula’s Overstocked bin store is the place to find a diamond in the rough among thousands of marked-down goods of every shape and size. A boxed wedding dress that didn’t sell prompted the store owner to do some digging and in the process rekindle a Northern California newlywed’s faith in humanity.
Store owner Veronica Romanenko, with her husband and son, researches items they gather for sale at massively discounted rates every week.
“We buy blindly and we never know what we’re going to get,” she told Carl Love of the Press Enterprise in a recent report. How a wedding dress ended up in their inventory after being lost in the mail for almost a year remains a mystery.
The out-of-place wedding dress was an anomaly for a store that usually deals in cell phone cases, unidentifiable overseas oddities, and overstocked bargain buys. A niche item such as a wedding dress needs a particular buyer, according to Romanenko. She did some detective work and located the Northern California bride, Love reported.
Jesslyn Lopez from the San Francisco Bay area was distraught at the loss of her wedding gown. Meant to be a memento, it was cleaned, boxed and lost in a shipping fiasco.
The newlyweds drove almost eight hours to get the gown back, opting for a weekend getaway over risking another shipping disaster.
“It keeps me hopeful that there are still good people out there that care about the well-being of others’ happiness,” she told Love.
