Cornwall’s most romantic proposal spots that make you want to say ‘I do’

Cornwall is without a doubt one of the most romantic places in the country.

In fact it was recently found to be the most popular honeymoon staycation spot.

But it seems the county is not just popular with newlyweds – but also those popping the question, as new research by pre-owned watch and jewellery specialist Est1897, found that Cornwall is the second “most Instagrammable” place to propose in the UK.

The study analysed the most “hashtagged” and “liked” Instagram locations around the country.

Although lockdowns in 2020 hindered the wedding process for many couples, proposals are on the rise. Searches for engagement rings have increased by 27% from last year and searches for “how to propose” have increased by 28%.

Ben Jarrett of Est1897 says: “While jetting off abroad is currently not an option, there are some amazing local spots in the UK for a romantic proposal.

Here are the four best proposal spots in Cornwall, according to the study:

1. Watergate Bay

This surfing hotspot near Newquay is well known for the good break of its waves, but it’s also a lovely spot for a coastal walk.

Whether it’s on the flat sands of the beach, a cave at low tide, or a dramatic cliffside overlook, Watergate Bay is the ideal spot for a romantic moment.

You can head to the Watergate Bay Hotel afterward for a posh coffee or a swanky cocktail.

2. Porthmeor Beach

This beach in St Ives has been celebrated for generations for the dazzling quality of its light.

Take a walk up the South West coast path towards St Nicholas Chapel for a view across the beach, and the sparkling waters. A memorable location come rain or shine.

3. Whitsand Bay

Whitsand Bay is made up of several beaches which offer over three miles of pristine sand. From Rame Head to Portwrinkle, you’re sure to find the perfect quiet spot… or if you bottle out the first time, there will be more along the way.

4. Kynance Cove

Kynance Cove

In fine weather, the waters in this West Cornwall beauty spot turn turquoise… So you can pretend you’re in the Mediterranean.

There are also serpentine rock formations and caves to explore, so you can really make the proposal location dramatic. Although be sensible, you might want to visit it in later anniversaries.
