Full Name: Adam Carroll
Company Name: Moving Image
Position: Owner
Why did you decide to film wedding videos?
Like many others I started by filming friend’s weddings and found that I really enjoyed it. You have the tension of filming a live event and the room to be creative. It’s a great emotional day and you can have a lot of fun.
When did you start your wedding video business?
In march 2003
Why do you charge up to £10,000?
We provide a bespoke service where we provide super 16 and 35mm film stocks and you need to hire film cameras, buy films stocks and do a telecine (all expensive). It’s a real hassle to be hones and the cameras can make a racket but some wealthy clients seem to have unlimited resources. We usually have to sign confidentilaity agreements and copyright assignments for this kind of work. We also offer filming over a number of days. Hen night, stag night/weekend plus wedding and interviews etc and costs mount up.
What makes your wedding videos standout from the crowd?
Well, many of our competitors produce great work too but we are a young bunch and we bring modern techniques to our videos. I watch a lot of art house films and I’m always stealing styles etc.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Anything and anywhere. Saw kidulthood the other day and saw a great little static dissolve.
How do moving image films define a great wedding video?
It’s got a nice pace and there’s a natural flow to the day. The light is nice etc. But like many things – the real magic is beyond our control.
What's definite 'no no' for modern day wedding videos?
Wobbly handheld during the service. People eating. Wedding night ;-)
What's in store for moving image films over the next year?
We’ve got a lot of work. Maybe scaling the operation down to cover just big events. The margin on a big event can be the same as 5 or 6 standard wedding videos.
