Martine Mason talks to us about combined photography & videography

Wedding Photographer Martine Mason

Full Name: Martine Mason

Company Name: Martine Mason Photography

Position: Owner

Why did you decide to move into the wedding photography business?

It was a natural progression from portraits. I love photographing people and there are lots of them at weddings. Since the demand in reportage photography has increased, wedding photography started to suit my style. I didn’t feel I was having to alter my photography to suit weddings.

When did you start your wedding photography business?

I started weddings in 2005. My first job was second photographer at a wedding reception.

How would you describe your style?

Contemporary, reportage with a few traditional shots for mums & dads. My approach is quite informal & relaxed.

What makes Martine Mason Photography standout from the crowd?

Its simply a style I guess. You like it or you don’t. Although one thing that does make me stand out from the crowd is … I don’t. Wedding Guests don't even notice me.

Also I offer a combined wedding photography & videography package. It's becoming very popular.

Why do you believe that a combined photo & video package is a good idea?

The combined photo and video package is a great idea for the wedding couple for loads of reasons.

We offer the best coverage of the day and we deliver a great product.

We have worked together so much now we instinctively know what we both need on the day. Videographer and photographer have a job to do on the day and quite often at the expense of each other. It is best that the photographer doesn’t have a starring role in the video and the videographer doesn’t feature in the corner of the photos. It really boils down to teamwork, between two professional companies to offer the bride & groom the best memories of their day. It’s also an indirect way of promoting the advantages of both disciplines to bridal couples. Photography has it’s place and so does Videography.

Why did you decide to work with Just Imagine Video Productions?

Greg JamesGreg has had a successful business now for 4 years. He was awarded runner up for best wedding videographer of the year 2006. His work is fantastic and I am proud to show my customers his demo.

We believe that our styles complement each other perfectly making the final product more than a sum of its’ parts.

Why not just hire the two companies separately?

Clients enjoy the convenience of one point of contact as well as the fact that our styles are similar. We have found that many brides are concerned about the impact of two visual companies working together on their day. Whether it be getting on with each other, getting in each other’s way or just being noticed more by their guests. By hiring the two together they are assured of both parties arriving on time and getting on with the job at hand in the most informal and efficient way possible. Greg and I get on really well and that helps to create a relaxed atmosphere for the bridal party. There is also a clear financial advantage in that we give away almost £200 worth of goodies if both companies are booked together.

Do you plan to merge the two businesses?

Not in the near future. We have discussed it but it works fine at the moment.
